Contemporary architectural design is fascinating to see.  It is unique, and it is, unfortunately, rare.  It is easy to be lulled into sameness and familiar elements in our daily lives, but when we see spaces that have been thoroughly envisioned… from a new perspective…it is energizing.  These spaces incorporate design elements that, on the surface, don’t seem to play nicely.  But, when they do, it is a real pleasure to capture.

I always try to come up with some witty title for my blog posts that describes the design of the space I photographed.  This one, however, wasn’t so easy to nail down.  A little bit of this, a little bit of that…but a whole lot of awesome.  That works, right?  In any case, there are some fantastic design elements throughout this kitchen design by Kade Homes.  Take a moment to study all of the detail work in this beauty.  It’s worth it…

I grew up in a ranch home.  A nice, old, brick ranch home.  When we bought it, it needed some updating.  Little by little, my parents picked a room, and went to work.  By the time I went off to college, it was a very comfortable, updated, and well-maintained home that I remember fondly.

More and more, families are rejecting the ‘let’s just buy new’ mentality, and are investing in these older staple homes, and turning them into absolute gems.  This describes a recent project by Kade Homes.  This 1960’s ranch, turned into a contemporary treasure, was especially inviting to me, since I love ranch homes…

Since we are now solidly in the holiday season, and most of us have spent a ton of time in the kitchen in the last few weeks, I thought I would feature some of my favorite kitchen shoots from the last year.  One great part about my job is that I get to see some of the most fantastic design work for kitchens out there today, and my ‘wish list’ for my kitchen gets longer and longer.  These images may grow your list too!
